Behind the Scenes at Ragged Life: Off to the Mills!

This past fortnight has sure been a busy one. I think everyone has been snuggled up inside crafting, so online orders have been busy busy busy. As well as sending out your Ragged Life orders, here’s what I’ve been up to…

Rag Rug Demo on Hochanda:

This past couple of weeks involved a lot of preparation for my appearance on Hochanda TV on 31st January. For anyone who isn’t sure what Hochanda is, it’s a TV craft shopping channel, which streams live demos on how to do every craft under the sun. From 10 til 11 on Saturday, I was demoing the main techniques of rag rug making, whilst sat in a sea of colourful rag rug samples.

It has become a running joke that every time I drive up to the Hochanda studios in Peterborough, it’s absolutely chucking it down. This means that when I’m loading in and out of the car, I get soaked (you’d have thought I’d have learnt to bring a cagoule by now). Sooo, if I look slightly drowned rat on screen then that’s your “behind the scenes” of why ☺️

If you’d like to watch the show, you can find the watch the replay here.

Off to the Woollen Mills:

This week we headed up to Yorkshire to pick up a whopping 225kg of wooly blanket yarn from the mills. This means that we’re fully refreshed on pretty much all the colourways we had run low on, so now’s the time to get in touch if you have particular colours you’d like to get hold of.

The photo below was taken in warmer (less Covidy) times, but I honestly feel like a kid at Christmas when I pick up a new batch.

Now we just need to ball it all up!

New book – Round 2 projects:

In case you missed it in my previous behind the scenes blog post, I’m currently working on a new rag rug book. My new book will cover ten different techniques of rag rug making from all across the world, alongside thirty projects, ranging in size and difficulty. A couple of weeks ago, I submitted the first ten projects to the stylist and photographer, and now I’m working on the next ten. Below is a little work-in-progress sneak peek of one of the new projects in a technique that you may just recognise…

If all goes to plan then the new book will be available to buy in Autumn 🙂

New Rag Rug and Natter Night:

Last Monday, I hosted our first ever Ragged Life “Rag Rug and Natter Night”, where a group of lovely ladies met up with me over Zoom to work on their rag rug projects and have a bit of a social and natter.

It was such a success that I’m planning to run it every fortnight on a Monday evening for the foreseeable future. The next Rag Rug and Natter Night will be 7:30-8:30pm on Monday, 8th February 2021 (then every two weeks thereafter). If you’d like to join the mailing list to be sent the Zoom joining details then please sign up here.

We’re also running another Zoom social session 10:00-11:00 on Thursday mornings, so sign up to the Rag Rug Coffee Morning newsletter to be kept in the loop about those too.
