Our beloved 100% Wool Blanket Yarn has established itself as a staple here at Ragged Life. After discovering it at the Knitting and Stitching Show back in 2018, blanket offcuts have fast become one of my favourite materials to rag rug with. Who can blame me right? It’s gorgeous!

Well, recently I made the long journey up to the woollen mill to pick up some new stock and I came back with over 800kg of the beautiful, soft blanket yarn. Yes, I’m a lucky gal! Needless to say, the Ragged Life Headquarters are currently full to the brim with a multitude of new colours.

As I looked out across the rainbow of colours, I felt like a kid in a sweet shop. So many beautiful colours, patterns and textures all around! Well, it was this feeling that sparked an idea… How could I make you feel that way?

I think much of the feeling comes from the excitement of having a wonderful array of colourful blanket yarns. So, I put my thinking cap on and here’s what I’ve come up with…

Our NEW “1kg Lucky Dip Pack”

These 1kg bundles of beautiful blanket yarn will consist of a minimum of 10 small balls of plain and patterned blanket offcuts, allowing you to fully experience the range of our wonderful blanket yarn treasure trove.

So what’s the catch?

There is no catch, except that what you will receive will be a complete random mix of blanket yarns in a variety of sizes and we won’t be taking any special colour requests for these particular packs. So, if you have a specific colour scheme in mind, you’re probably best buying our classic 250g balls of blanket yarn as usual.

Here are a few more details of how the packs will work…

Most of our blanket yarn is rolled up into 250g balls. We then sell it by the ball (with a minimum of 2 balls per order). So, it’s £20 for 2 balls, £30 for 3 balls, £40 for 4 balls etc…. And some of you blanket yarn lovers buy much more!

However our new lucky dip bundle will consist of smaller balls (a minimum of 10) in various colours and patterns. The packs will weigh 1kg total and will be sold at the reduced price of £35. We’re able to do this reduced price as we don’t have to spend as much time searching for specific colour requests 😊

After purchase, you will be sent a random choice of hand picked balls and you will be kept in suspense until the pack arrives at your door…. oohhh! Of course, we’ll use our creative eyes to send you colours that work as a set.

So, to summarise, the bundles will consist of the same beautiful, cosy blanket yarn that you are familiar with, but smaller balls means more colours. This gives colour lovers the chance to kickstart their new rag rug designs with more flexibility. Yay!

What makes our blanket yarn so great?

It’s 100% wool! This means that not only is it super soft, but it is also excellent quality. Wool is an absolute pleasure to work with when rag rugging, and any rug or cushion made in blanket yarn will last for generations. 

2) It comes pre-cut into strips! This equals less cutting time 🙂 We generally recommend cutting the strips in half for ease of use and to make them stretch further. However this still takes considerably less time than deconstructing a garment into strips.

4) It’s sustainable! You will know by now that we at Ragged Life like to make a conscious effort to be eco friendly. Our blanket yarn is made from offcuts from blanket production in Yorkshire, so you can rest assured that every ball you use is less wastage going to landfill. 

5) It goes far! Blanket yarn is thick. This means that when rag rugging, it covers the hessian much quicker than most fabrics. Therefore you can rag rug further apart and your rag rug creation will be done in no time.
